Course Overview
Students will be trained in core skills like bio mechanics, exercise therapy and electrotherapy methods. By the end of the course students will be concerned with identifying and maximizing quality of life and movement potential within the spheres of promotion, prevention, treatment/intervention, habitation and rehabilitation. This encompasses physical, psychological, emotional, and social well being.

The duration of the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) is 4 ½ years followed by 6 months internship. The medium of instruction is English for all the subjects of study and for the examination of BPT course.
Qualifying Examination
A Candidate seeking admission to first year Bachelor in Physiotherapy (BPT):
Should have passed two year Pre University examination conducted by Department of Pre-University Education, Karnataka State, with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually also.
OR
Shall have passed any other examination conducted by Boards / Councils / Intermediate examination established by State Government / Central Government and recognized as equivalent to a two year Pre University Examination by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences / Association of Indian Universities (AIU), with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually also.
OR
Candidates who have completed Pre-university course with Vocational Physiotherapy as their optional subject are eligible for admission to BPT course.
OR
Lateral entry shall be to III year of the 41/2 years BPT Course
The students who have completed DPT course conducted by paramedical board are eligible for lateral entry.
Marks:
The selection of students to a course of Physiotherapy shall be based on merit provided that:
In case of admission on the basis of qualifying examination, a candidate for admission to BPT course must have passed individually in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and must have obtained not less than 45% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the qualifying examination. In respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Category I, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology together in qualifying examination is not less than 40% instead of 45% as above.
Age:
A candidate seeking admission to Bachelor of Physiotherapy course should have completed 17 years of age, as on 31 st December of the year of admission.
Every candidate before admission to the course shall furnish to Principal of the Institution a certificate of Medical Fitness from an authorized Government Medical Officer to the effect, that the candidate is physically fit to undergo Physiotherapy course.

Physiotherapy is a health profession that deals with management of body dysfunction or disorder by physical modalities. The aims of physio-therapeutic system are to promote optimum human health and function through the application of medical health sciences and clinical sciences. Physiotherapy is a first contact, autonomous, client-focused health profession which dedicated to following.
- Improving and maintaining functional independence and physical performance.
- Preventing and managing pain, physical impairments, disabilities and limits to participation.
- Promoting fitness, health and wellness.
Physiotherapy Includes
- Assessing the patient.
- Planning and implementing the program after assessment.
- Altering and continuing management program after re-assessment.
- Assessment of clients with actual or potential impairments, pain, functional limitations, disabilities or other health-related conditions using detailed history-taking, as well as specific tests and measures for screening, establishing a diagnosis and monitoring.
- Diagnosis resulting from assessment findings and clinical reasoning to determine abilities, functional needs and potential for change.
- Planning an intervention strategy that addresses the prognosis and follow-up and incorporates the application of selected approaches and techniques supported by the best evidence available.
- Implementing selected interventions safely to relieve pain; achieve and maintain.
- Health and fitness, functional independence and physical performance and manage the identified impairments, disabilities and limits to participation.
- Evaluation of health status as a baseline for monitoring or to determine the result, impact, or effectiveness of physiotherapy intervention.
- Education of the profession, other health professionals, the public and clients with the intention of transferring knowledge and skills and developing understanding, independence and competence.
- Consultation that provides professional advice and solutions addressing a wide range of health service and health status issues.
- Research that encompasses the application of critical inquiry, as well as participation in or assessment of findings from research activities.
- Service management related to planning, directing, organizing and monitoring service delivery and effective utilization of resources.
- Communication with clients, team members and others to achieve collaboration and service coordination.
Higher studies: The completion of the bachelors’ degree course in physiotherapy opens up multiple avenues for further The undergraduate students are eligible for Masters in Physiotherapy in India abroad countries like UK, Australia and New Zealand. They are also eligible to do Doctorate in Physiotherapy in USA, India and other Countries. Apart from this students can also pursue studies in varied streams like MSc Anatomy, Physiology, Post Graduate diploma in sports sciences, Hospital Administration etc.
Job Prospects: In India first contact practice and referral practice is possible in The investment needed to set up a basic physiotherapy clinic is meager but has a very huge potential which would enable the professional to lead a successful life.
It has become a part and parcel of any hospital to have a full fledged physiotherapy department opening up many job vacancies both as clinical physiotherapists and as academic
